It was surreal interviewing one of the Directors of one of the biggest UK soaps, on the set of Albert Square and although Richard Platt has directed over 50 episodes of 'EastEnders' andbeen nominated for many awards, his experience and wisdom is priceless for any up an coming drama/tv director.
He has also directed over 20 episodes of 'Holby City' for the BBC as well as episodes of 'Doctors', and was a contributing series director on 'Family Affairs' for Talkback Thames.
Richard. His work on the programme has been nominated many times for industry awards, notably for the car chase and death of Steve Owen (Martin Kemp) and most recently, for the first £1million stunt; incorporating not only a spectacular car crash but also a 15 minute underwater sequence shot both on location and in U stage at Pinewood studios.
Richard trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic theatre school and since beginning his career as a member of Sir Peter Halls Company at the Royal National Theatre, has worked extensively in theatre, TV and film as an actor, writer and director.
Richard works at the BBC as a mentor for new directors to multi camera drama and is currently in pre-production on 'The Young Cleopatra' by Al Hunter Ashton. A feature film shooting in Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor, Egypt and due for release in 2008.
